My iPhone 7 has water damage...what should I do?

While the majority of the work we do here at iSmash relates to screen repair, there’s a large number of phones we see that have taken a dunking - in the sink, the bath, the toilet...you name it!
A common misconception is that dropping your phone into a bag of rice or putting it on the radiator is the first aid treatment your phone needs. Ignore this. First thing, obviously, is to get it out of the water! Next, do not turn it on - this can cause short circuits. If it is on, we recommend turning it off. Now take the phone out of its case, shake the iPhone 7 and leave it to dry.
You can either contact us straight away or leave it to dry out, which can take a couple of days. After that time has passed, try turning it on. If it works - great. If not, contact us and we'll see if we can bring your iPhone 7 back to life.

My touchscreen has stopped working - do I need an iPhone 7 screen repair or replacement?

It may be the case that your iPhone 7 needs a screen repair, if there is some behind the scenes circuitry that is damaged, or it may be that you need a full-screen replacement. Before we get to that point, though, let’s see if there are other things that you can do to get your phone up and running without having to book a screen repair appointment.
If it’s a software issue, you can sometimes correct the problem. If there’s a particular app and its use coincides with the screen playing up, try deleting that app. Try holding down the power and home buttons on your iPhone 7 simultaneously for 30 seconds to hard reset the phone. This may well bring the screen back from the dead.
If there has been any physical trauma to the phone, for example, a drop, this may cause some circuit damage even if cosmetically the phone looks ok. In this case, get in touch with us and we can assess whether your device can be fixed with a screen repair or a replacement.

I've smashed my iPhone 7 screen but it is still working - should I book a screen repair?

It’s not uncommon that a cracked screen can continue to function - many people continue to use their phone after they've smashed the screen. Although the iPhone 7 screen may function, you run the risk of dirt particles or liquid gaining access to the inner workings of the phone through the cracks in the screen. This can cause a lot more damage so it’s best to deal with the screen issue as soon as possible.
